CIO Tyrone Holmes now says i-Ready kids get just 30 minutes of screen time, not 45 or 60 minutes. But school YouTube & social media channels say otherwise.
Thank you John... these are likely caring, well-meaning teachers who were convinced by industry to be "leaders" in the supposed up-and-coming EdTech takeover. I am hopeful that educators will see how they are being controlled by EdTech corporations as much as the students being put in front of screens. All educators deserve the small class size and human-focused classrooms provided kids of the tech elite and wealthy. Putting resources into teacher salaries rather than screens can help us get there.

Those 45 minute mentions didnāt come from nowhere! Us teachers were absolutely encouraged to get kids on for that time.
Havenāt checked this year yet, but two years ago if I had kids go into Learning Games to play Match for basic multiplication facts or if I assigned them a lesson aligned with what we were *actually* doing in class to provide additional exposure, those minutes didnāt ācountā under the watchful eye of the metric-meters. Only the algorithm-decided lessons counted for the minutes. (Which means itās quite possible kids were actually on much longer than the reported minutes if teachers used it in this way AND adhered to any 45 minute ārecommendationsā).
"labor of love-hate" - LOL. I'm stealing that, Meredith! And yes, it's arduous. In the past I marshaled entire teams to make supercuts. This was my first solo attempt.
And yes, what you describe about the counter comports with many of the interviews I've conducted with teachers around the country. This was 100% the norm - especially in school districts that bought into Curriculum Associates' "Stretch Growth" hustle.
